MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, U.S. — MGEX on Feb. 25 announced preliminary February monthly electronic trading volume of 190,639 contracts, eclipsing the previous record set in June 2010.
Total futures and options volume in February now equals 215,838 contracts traded making February 2011 the second highest month for total exchange volume in the 130-year history of MGEX.
The preliminary electronic trading volume of 13,864 is the sixth best in history. Total estimated exchange trading volume for the day was 16,085 contracts traded, the fourteenth best total volume day ever at the exchange.
The new records come on the heels of various other February records being set including the highest daily electronic record and second highest daily total exchange volume record, both reached on Feb. 23. In all, four of the top 10 and seven of the top 20 electronic volume days occurred in February.
