The average price paid for white pan bread decreased in April, while the price for whole wheat bread increased.
The U.S. average retail price of white pan bread was $1.40, down 1¢ per lb from March and down 4.8¢ from April 2015. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in April increased in two regions — up 4.4¢ in the West and up 1.3¢ in the Midwest — and fell in two regions — down 8¢ in the Northeast and down 2.5¢ in the South.
At 191.5¢ per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 0.6¢ per lb from March but down 9.3¢ per lb from April 2015.
The national average price of family flour in April was 52.1¢ per lb, up 0.9¢ from March and up 1.2¢ from April 2015.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in April was $1.29 per lb, down 4.7¢ from March and down 4.3¢ from April 2015. Chocolate chip cookies were $3.42 per lb, up 2¢ from March and up 8.5¢ from April 2015. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 70.3¢ per lb, down 0.8¢ from March but up 3.3¢ from April 2015.
