CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, U.S. — Fortune magazine’s newly released list of most admired companies in 2016 had Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) listed as the most admired company in the food production industry. Multiple agriculture companies were on the list for food production including: Ingredion (ranked second); Wilmar International (third); and Bunge (fourth).
It was the second straight year that ADM received the No. 1 ranking.
Fortune’s annual list of the World’s Most Admired Companies ranks companies in a number of major industries. The list includes 340 companies in 54 industries.
“I am deeply proud of our ADM teams for the work they’ve done to earn this distinction,” said Juan Luciano, ADM chairman and chief executive officer. “Our people work tirelessly each day to deliver exceptional value to our customers and shareholders, and the Fortune ranking is a tremendous validation of their efforts.”
This is also the seventh consecutive year that Ingredion has been included on the list.
"We're honored to once again be listed among the world's most admired companies. We strive to create value for all of our stakeholders, and this recognition confirms our achievements," said Ilene Gordon, Ingredion chairman, president and chief executive officer. "We're particularly proud of our employees whose on-going contributions are essential to our success."
A total of 652 companies from 30 countries were evaluated by 4,000 executives, directors and security analysts. Survey respondents were asked to rate companies in their industry on nine criteria: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment value, quality of products and services and global competitiveness, ADM said.
