WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 0.9¢ per lb in November, its second straight month of declines, while the price of whole wheat bread increased 5¢ in the month, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The U.S. average retail price of white pan bread was $1.49, down 0.9¢ per lb from October and down 1.1¢ from November 2014. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in November decreased in three regions — down 4¢ in the Midwest, down 2.7¢ in the West and down 0.4¢ in the South — and increased in one region — up 2.9¢ in the Northeast.
At $2.28 per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 5¢ per lb from October and up 10.7¢ per lb from November 2014.
The national average price of family flour in November was 49.6¢ per lb, down 1.5¢ from October and down 1.9¢ from November 2014.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in November was $1.26 per lb, down 3.1¢ from October but up 2.1¢ from November 2014. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 73.2¢ per lb, up 4.2¢ from October and up 1.5¢ from November 2014.
