WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — The average price paid for white pan bread decreased 1.4¢ per lb in October while the price of whole wheat bread fell 3¢ in the month, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was $1.41, down 1.4¢ per lb from September but up 0.4¢ from October 2014. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in October decreased in three regions — down 7.7¢ in the Northeast, down 0.2¢ in the Midwest and down 0.1¢ in the West — and increased in one region — up 0.7¢ in the South.
At $1.97 per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 3¢ per lb from September and down 2.3¢ per lb from October 2014.
The national average price of family flour in October was 51.1¢ per lb, down 0.6¢ from September but up 1¢ from October 2014.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in October was $1.29 per lb, up 1.5¢ from September and up 3.1¢ from October 2014. Chocolate chip cookies were $3.39 per lb, up 2.5¢ from September and up 9.6¢ from October 2014. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 69¢ per lb, up 2.8¢ from September but down 3.3¢ from October 2014.
