Winter wheat harvested as of Aug. 10 was 97% in Michigan (97% as the five-year average), 75% in South Dakota (88%), 98% in Nebraska (99%), 65% in Montana, (45%), 60% in Idaho (37%), 84% in Oregon (69%), 83% in Washington (50%) and 96% in California (100%).
The condition of the 2014 corn crop as of Aug. 10 was rated 73% good to excellent, 20% fair and 7% very poor to poor in the 18 major states, unchanged from the previous week, the USDA said, and compared with 64% good to excellent in the same week a year ago. In top-producing Iowa, 76% of the crop was rated good to excellent compared with 77% the previous week.
Condition of the soybean crop as of Aug. 10 in the 18 major states declined to 70% good to excellent compared with 71% the previous week and 64% a year ago, the USDA said. In top-producing Iowa, 75% was rated good to excellent compared with 74% the previous week.
Spring wheat conditions in the six major states were 70% good to excellent as of Aug. 10, the same as the previous week but up from 66% on the same date a year ago. In top-producing North Dakota, 83% of the crop was rated good to excellent compared with 84% the previous week. Six per cent of the crop was harvested as of Aug. 10 compared with 21% as the five-year average.
The USDA said 96% of the corn crop in the 18 major states was in the silking stage, compared with 95% as the five-year average. Fifty-four per cent of the crop was in the dough stage compared with 46% as the five-year average. Eleven per cent of the crop in the 18 major states was in the dent stage, compared with 16% as the average for the date.
Ninety-two per cent of the soybean crop in the 18 major states was blooming compared with a 91% five-year average. Setting pods was 72% as of Aug. 10, compared with a 65% average.
The rice crop in the six major states was rated 73% good to excellent compared with 71% both the previous week and year ago. Seventy-one per cent of the rice crop was headed as of Aug. 10 compared with 70% as the five-year average, the USDA said.
The USDA said 52% of the oats crop in the nine major states was harvested as of Aug. 10 compared with 64% as the five-year average.
