TOLEDO, OHIO, U.S. — A “level 3 emergency” brought on by bad weather that dumped 8 to 10 inches of snow in parts of Ohio led Kraft Foods Group to temporarily shut its flour mill in Toledo on Feb. 5. The mill, the nation’s second largest, has daily wheat and durum capacity of 31,000 cwts.
A “level 3 emergency” means only emergency vehicles should be on the roads. People could be arrested if they decide to drive on local roads.
As a result, the mill was closed the morning of Feb. 5. No one was available for comment at the mill, but grain industry sources told Milling & Baking News that despite deliveries being delayed there was no concern that orders would go unfilled.
The mill was expected to be back up by Feb. 6, sources said.
