WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA — As a result of an operational and infrastructure assessment, Cargill Limited said on Oct. 30 that it will close its remaining Swan River, Manitoba, Canada, grain facility, which includes two grain elevators, effective May 31, 2015.
“Our Swan River grain facility would require significant and costly upgrades in order to maintain the high level of safety and efficiency standards at Cargill,” said Jeff Wildeman, regional manager, Cargill AgHorizons. “We value our customers and will continue to work with area farmers to provide localized agronomy and crop input solutions.”
The crop inputs facility located in Swan River will remain open to continue to provide customers with the level of service they have come to expect from Cargill. Additionally, Cargill will continue to offer grain marketing solutions services to its customer base in the region.
The four employees affected by the grain facility closure have been provided with either transitional support and packages or other positions within the company. The decommissioning process of both Cargill grain elevators located in Swan River is underway. The demolition of both buildings is expected to be complete by December 2015.
