OMAHA, NEBRASKA, U.S. — The Scoular Co. has acquired the assets of R.O. Mayes Co., a grain-handling business with a facility in Petersburg, Virginia, U.S., about 25 miles south of Richmond, Virginia, U.S. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
John Messerich, senior vice-president of Scoular, said Mike Mayes, the previous owner of the business, will remain involved, as general manager of the facility.
“We’re pleased to have Mike and his staff join Scoular and to continue the business that Mike’s family has grown over the course of the past 60-plus years,” Messerich said.
The Petersburg facility complements Scoular’s grain-handling business in Windsor, Virginia, U.S., which Scoular began operating in 2006, Messerich said. He said the company will “improve the Petersburg location over time,” with a specific objective of increasing its handling capacity.
Mayes said the business was established in 1948 by his father.
“Under Scoular’s ownership, we can continue to serve our area farmers like we always have, picking up grain on the farm as well as having farmers deliver to the elevator,” he said. “We can also leverage Scoular’s size, experience, and expertise to bring new marketing opportunities to our customers.”
