CRACOW, POLAND — At the XXVI Congress of the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation (FEFAC) in Cracow, Poland, the FEFAC General Assembly elected Helen Raine honorary member for her outstanding professional achievement to the benefit of the European feed industry in the area of feed and feed safety legislation, feed assurance, risk and crisis management as well as for the defense of Intellectual Property Rights.
FEFAC said the unique blend of her superb human qualities as well as a lady of strong convictions, her persuasive communication skills grounded in the highest level of scientific knowledge and professional ethics gained her unanimous respect within FEFAC and the feed and food chain partners, and at the level of the E.U. institutions, including the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
She joined the FEFAC Praesidium as a member in 2004, has been FEFAC expert in the EFSA Stakeholder Consultative Group on Emerging Risks and became chairperson of the International Feed Safety Alliance in 2005.
Raine holds a PhD in Animal Nutrition (University of Reading) and has been a member of the Institute of Biology and a Chartered Biologist. She has gained considerable experience since 1976 in senior technical positions within four major U.K. feed businesses (RHM, Dalgety, Bibby and AB Agri Ltd) and was appointed research and marketing director of ABN Ltd. in 1994 following takeover by ABF, and as group technical Director in 1996 with worldwide responsibilities, including setting up operations in China.
Helen Raine is the seventh holder of the title of FEFAC honorary member since the federation was founded in 1959, following Hubert Marek, Marcel van Belle, Carl Brenninkmeyer, André Namur, Franz-Josef Juchem and Giordano Veronesi.
