NORWICH, VERMONT, U.S. — Robert S. Smith has been promoted to director of sales, bakery flour sales, at King Arthur Flour. Smith most recently was senior sales representative in the South for bakery flour sales, a position he held since 2000.
“Robert’s years of experience as a bakery owner, a certified master baker, and over 10 years of experience with King Arthur Flour make him a perfect fit as our director of bakery flour sales,” said Michael Bittel, senior vice-president of King Arthur Flour and general manager of flour.
Smith began his career in the baking industry in the 1970s, when he took a job at his father-in-law’s retail bakery in South Carolina and went on to own that bakery for more than 20 years. The bakery made everything from donuts to wedding cakes.
In 1990, he sold the bakery and began working with Dawn Food Products for 13 years as a sales manager and training coordinator.
Smith is director emeritus and has served as treasurer of the Southeastern Retail Bakers Association, and is a former member of the board of directors of the Retail Bakers of America. In 2012 he was inducted into the Retail Bakers of America Class of Emeritus Members.
He received a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of South Carolina.
