KIEV, UKRAINE — Ukraine will be able to export 20 million to 21 million tonnes of grain this marketing year, said Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, the Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food. Prysyazhnyuk said the amount was based on 10 million tonnes of carry-over stock of grain from last year and this year’s forecasted crop of 45 million to 46 million tonnes.
So far, Ukraine has harvested 12.1 million tonnes of wheat, 5.5 million tonnes of barley, and 336,000 tonnes of rye, said Prysyazhnyuk.
Mykola Azarov, prime minister of Ukraine, said the country’s goal is to double its agricultural production, including increasing grain production to 80 million to 100 million tonnes per year and vegetables to 30 million to 40 million tonnes per year.
