“This upgrade will be very good for the area farmers, as the facility will now be able to access additional markets at competitive rates,” said Rob Nordmeyer, general manager for Cargill’s Twin Rivers Farm Service Group.
Cargill has owned the Atchison facility since 1999. The elevator purchases corn, soybeans, wheat and sorghum from local farmers. Increasing the rail capacity will provide better access to markets on the West coast, in the Southwestern U.S., the Gulf, and Mexico.
