ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA, U.S. — The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) announced on Nov. 21 that Suzanne Heinen, Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) Administrator, USDA, will be one of the featured speakers at the 2012 Import/Export Seminar Dec. 4-5 in Arlington, Virginia, U.S. The conference was created out of a recognized need for education and discussion on regulatory trade requirements for feed, ingredients and pet food.
Heinen, also FAS general sales manager, has served as administrator since April. Prior to FAS, she worked on food security issues in the Office of the Secretary and as Minister-Counselor for Agriculture at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture in Rome, Italy.
In addition to Heinen, several representatives will be on hand to provide information about the unique roles and responsibilities of various agencies as pertaining to the trade of feed, ingredients and pet food. Other speakers include experts from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (Executive Office of the President), the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The Import/Export Seminar was developed to educate AFIA members about the role of various agencies, constraints and how current efforts can supported. The program will also provide details about available resources, question-and-answer sessions and regional trade updates.
