COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO, U.S. — A miller, a publisher and a milling equipment supplier were recipients of honorary memberships at the 2020 annual meeting of the North American Millers’ Association.
Tributes to the three — Arthur Loeffler of Star of the West Milling Co., Frankenmuth, Michigan, U.S.; Mark Sabo of Sosland Publishing Company, Kansas City, Missouri, U.S.; and Rene Steiner, Bühler, Inc., Plymouth, Minnesota, U.S. — highlighted a dinner Oct. 18 during the NAMA annual meeting at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.
Loeffler retired in May 2018 as president of Star of the West following a 29-year career with the company. Upon his retirement, he was elected chairman of the board. Loeffler served for many years as a board member of NAMA and is a past president of the Michigan Millers Association. He also served on the board of directors of the National Grain and Feed Association. He is a past president of the Michigan Millers Association. In 2011, Mr. Loeffler was appointed to the Michigan Wheat Commission board by Governor Rick Snyder and was reappointed last year.
Following a 42-year at Sosland Publishing Company, parent company of World Grain, Sabo retired as president at the end of 2015. He joined the company in 1972, initially as general manager of Retail Baking Today. He was named president of the company and publisher of Milling & Baking News in 1986. He is a past chairman of the board of AIB International, Inc.
Steiner recently retired following a career at Bühler dating back more than 50 years, beginning as a degree mechanical engineer in 1968. His leadership positions at the company included president of Bühler South Africa from 1992-97; president of processed food for Bühler Switzerland, 1997-2001; president of the international sales and service organization of Bühler Switzerland from 2002-2005; and president of Bühler North America, until his retirement at the end of 2018.
