Star of the West Milling Co. plans to build a new flour mill at the site of its Ligonier, Indiana, US, flour mill while also adding pathogen mitigated flour production capacity at the facility. The project would increase the company’s overall daily flour milling capacity by 45%. The new mill, to be built adjacent to its existing flour mill, will feature one 10,000-cwt flour milling unit, a 5,000-cwt flour milling unit and a 5,000-cwt unit completely dedicated to production of the pathogen-mitigated flour. Rogers Foods Ltd. has commissioned a 90-tpd (1,800 cwts) expansion of its hard wheat B unit in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada, bringing capacity to 300 tpd (6,000 cwts). Rogers Foods, which is owned by Japan-based Nisshin Flour Milling. The expansion was supplied by Cremona, Italy-based Ocrim. Read more
Capacity of the B mill was left unchanged with a 2022 automation and modernization project, leaving the facility at Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, US, with 12,500 cwts of daily milling capacity, split between 7,500 cwts for the A mill (mostly a hard wheat mill) and 5,000 cwts for the B mill. The B mill project was scheduled to be executed on a tight timeline — eight months from start to finish — while the A mill continued to operate. Read more
Bartlett, a Savage Company, completed a $28 million expansion and upgrade at its grain milling facility in Wilson’s Mills, North Carolina, US, adding a third milling unit and significantly increased storage capacity for wheat, flour and millfeed. Bartlett began the project in July 2021 and celebrated its completion on May 2, 2023. The Wilson’s Mills location now has three milling units with a combined daily capacity of 20,000 cwts and storage capacity of 1.1 million bushels of wheat. Read more
King Milling Co. on April 10, 2024, celebrated the completion of the latest expansion of its flour milling complex in Lowell, Michigan, US — a new six-floor, 35,000-square-foot concrete “D” mill that can produce up to 8,000 cwts of flour per day. The $47 million project, which began in 2022 and was completed this winter, involved erecting the mill as well as two slipform concrete wheat storage bins that are attached to it. Read more
Miller Milling announced on March 29, 2023, that it is planning a major expansion at its Saginaw, Texas, US, flour mill that will increase the plant’s daily capacity by 10,000 cwts. The expansion will include leading-edge milling technology with a continued focus on food safety, efficiency and waste reduction. The Saginaw mill also underwent a capacity expansion of 10,000 cwts, to 24,000 cwts, that was completed in 2019. When the upcoming expansion is complete, the Saginaw mill will be the largest in Texas at 34,000 cwts. It is slated to begin production in December 2024 or early 2025. Read more
P&H Milling Group, a division of Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd., will expand its Hamilton, Ontario, facility with a third flour mill and two storage silos. The existing P&H Hamilton flour mill, operational since 2017, was the first new flour mill built in Ontario in 75 years. Capacity was doubled in 2020 with a second mill and increased storage. The facility currently has a daily production capacity of 7,300 cwts, according to Sosland Publishing Co.’s 2024 Grain & Milling Annual. Construction was expected to begin in March. Read more
Utah Flour Milling is a partnership of Denver, Colorado, US-based PHM Brands’ Panhandle Milling and NIPPN Corp., one of Japan’s largest flour milling businesses. Construction was first announced in July 2023, ground was broken in January and the mill is expected to be completed this fall. The $100 million mill and mix facility will be adjacent to a Campbell Snacks baking plant in Richmond, Utah, US, and primarily responsible for production of Goldfish and Pepperidge Farm products. The plant’s daily flour production capacity will be 7,500 cwts. Read more
Making its first venture into flour milling in the United States, Westa, Inc. has begun construction of a $70 million flour mill at the Port of Brownsville, Texas, US, with plans to mill US wheat and export some of the flour to international destinations. The first stage will consist of one milling line with flour production capacity of 5,000 cwts per day. The first phase is expected to be completed by May or June 2025. Read more
