KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, US — These are the top 10 US states with the most off-farm grain storage capacity as listed in Sosland Publishing Co.’s 2024 Grain & Milling Annual.
The US had 11.822 billion bushels of off-farm grain storage as of Dec. 1, 2022, up from 11.817 billion bushels the previous year. Storage has grown steadily each year from 8.5 billion bushels in 2003. Crop statistics for each state are from the US Department of Agriculture’s 2022 State Agriculture Overview.
South Dakota checks in with 445 million bushels of off-farm grain storage and counts 222 storage sites. South Dakota harvests:
North Dakota enjoys 460 million bushels of off-farm grain storage for 320 sites. North Dakota harvests:
Ohio has 339 off-farm grain storage sites on its ledger with a capacity of 475 million bushels. Ohio harvests:
Indiana touts 550 million bushels of off-farm grain storage and 280 storage facilities. Indiana harvests:
Texas counts 420 off-farm grain storage sites for 610 million bushels. Texas harvests:
Minnesota has 500 off-farm grain storage facilities for 820 million bushels. Minnesota harvests:
Checking in at fourth is Nebraska with 990 million bushels of grain off-farm grain storage and 485 storage sites. Nebraska harvests:
Kansas totals 690 off-farm grain storage facilities holding 1.20 billion bushels. Kansas harvests:
Iowa has 840 off-farm grain storage facilities to store 1.52 billion bushels. Iowa harvests:
Illinois has 810 off-farm grain storage facilities able to store 1.65 billion bushels. Illinois harvests:
