ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA, U.S. — Gregory Ibach, undersecretary for marketing and regulatory programs for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), will address attendees at the 2018 North American Millers’ Association (NAMA) Spring Conference on March 26 in Naples, Florida, U.S.

NAMA said Ibach will be discussing priorities and activities at USDA-MRP, including the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Law, Section 199A of the Tax Cuts and Job Act, the USDA reorganization, and other issues of importance to the milling industry.

Ibach, who was confirmed to his current position by the Senate on Oct. 26, 2017, carries out the task of facilitating domestic and international marketing of U.S. agricultural products, and ensuring the health and care of animals and plants. Marketing and regulatory program agencies, which include the Agricultural Marketing Service, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, and the Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration, are active participants in setting national and international standards.

The NAMA Oat Milling Conference will be on March 25 (separate registration required). On March 26, Maile Hermida from Hogan Lovells US LLP, will review food safety and regulatory issues affecting millers, and Cassandra Kuball, senior director of trade and industry affairs with the Corn Refiners Association, will be discussing NAFTA and other international trade issues affecting the food and agriculture industries. On March 27, Brett Carver from Oklahoma State University will discuss the “Future of Wheat,” followed by a panel discussion on wheat breeding trends, moderated by Jane DeMarchi from the American Seed Trade Association, and the program will conclude with the Annual Soft Wheat Crop Report & Forecast Panel, led by Grover Van Hoose from The Mennel Milling Co.
