DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES — Amira Nature Foods Ltd., a global provider of branded specialty rice, including basmati and other food products, has partnered with United Phosphorus Ltd. (UPL), a crop protection and seed company, to build a rice value chain in India and other parts of the world.
Founded in 1915, Amira has evolved into a global provider of branded packaged specialty rice, with sales across five continents around the world. The company primarily sells Basmati rice, which is a premium long-grain rice grown only in certain regions of the Indian sub-continent, under its flagship Amira brand as well as under other third-party brands. Amira sells its products through a broad distribution network in both developed and emerging markets.
UPL produces rice seeds in India and develops and markets rice crop solutions in India and other parts of the world. UPL is represented by its flagship company, RiceCo, which develops rice technologies for farmers in the United States, South America, Asia and Africa. Additionally, UPL is engaging rice farmers through its digital advisory services company, Adarsh Kisan Services, which provides regular agronomic support to farmers while UPL provides farm services that include custom application of crop protection solutions, including post-harvest applications.
“Amira Nature Foods is an important off-taker of rice from the farmers with capabilities of quality milling and marketing of its rice brands and we look forward to our alliance with UPL,” said Karan A. Chanana, chairman of Amira.
Jai Shroff, chief executive officer of UPL, added, “Both UPL and Amira have made an important strategic alliance to build a productive rice value chain in India and other parts of the world.”
