CONSTANTA, ROMANIA — Transport Trade Services SA (TTS), a Romanian freight forwarding services company, is investing 22.9 million euros ($23.8 million) in the expansion of its grain terminal in the Port of Constanta on the Black Sea.

The terminal’s storage capacity will be increased to 180,000 tonnes from the current 110,000. The project will add six additional storage cells with a capacity of 10,975 tonnes each and five buffer cells with a storage capacity of 863 tonnes each, TTS said in a report filed Dec. 19 with the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

The new terminal will receive goods from barges and trucks through two unloading points with a handling capacity of 350 tonnes per hour each. The two existing shiploaders will facilitate transshipment onto ships at 800 to 1,000 tonnes per hour.

The project also includes a new intake point for goods from river units, equipment for one of the two new truck unloading points, necessary equipment to serve the cargo flows and connections with the old terminal, as well as three in-line scales.

Work will begin in January 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2026.

The Port of Constanta has seen steady growth in cereals exports during the past decade, jumping to a record 36.2 million tonnes in 2023, up 50% from 2022, according to port statistics.

TTS is the parent company of TTS Group, a provider of integrated logistics services with port terminals in Constanta and seven Danube River ports.
