PERTH, AUSTRALIA — Having recently set a single-day harvest receivals record, CBH Group set new marks twice in the past week, with farmers overcoming the impact of yet more rain in Western Australia.

In its Dec. 3 harvest report, CBH said its network brought in 623,500 tonnes of grain on Nov. 28 and immediately topped that number with 630,600 tonnes on Nov. 29. The previous mark of 620,000 tonnes was just set on Nov. 18, which had been the best day since 602,000 tonnes on Dec. 2, 2022.

“It’s an incredible achievement given that a number of our sites are using falling numbers (testing), which typically takes longer to assess grain quality compared to normal sampling methods,” said Mick Daw, chief operations officer at CBH.

Falling numbers testing has been introduced in sites in the northern parts of the state to preserve the quality of the harvest moving forward, CBH said. This testing is used to manage stacks and grower loads, ensuring that each load delivered can achieve the highest grade possible, while ensuring individual segregations remain within market specifications.

For the week ending Dec. 1, CBH received 3.43 million tonnes of grain — including wheat, barley and canola — and pushed its harvest total to 12.34 million tonnes.

“Growers are able to get their crops off quicker and quicker, and by investing in our network, it means we can handle surges in site traffic and peaks in receivals, allowing growers to get in and out, and back to harvesting,” Daw said. “These records reflect the collective efforts and ongoing focus on the Path to 2033 Strategy to continually improve supply chain performance, which we are demonstrating this harvest.”
