INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, US — Legacy Feed, a feed manufacturing and swine management company, has begun operations at its recently updated and expanded feed mill, servicing deliveries within 70 miles of Millville, Indiana, US, with 1.5 million bushels of grain storage and the capacity to produce 300,000 tons of pelleted hog feed.
The mill was completed in early September, and the first load of feed was produced and delivered on Sept. 11, Legacy Feed said in an Oct. 7 announcement. The mill is fully automated with the latest pelleting technology with built-in biosecurity features to prevent disease transfer.
Legacy Feed was created in 2022 as a partnership between Signature Farms, LP and Keystone Cooperative, a farmer-owned cooperative with agronomy, energy, grain and animal nutrition services. Keystone, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the largest swine management company in the state and the operator of Legacy Feed.
Legacy Feed said it took an existing facility with limited production capacity and turned it into an advanced feed mill that creates a more competitive corn basis for local farmers, enabling the diversification and long-term sustainability of farming operations.
“The completion of the Legacy Feed mill expands Keystone’s swine and animal nutrition into a new territory,” said Eric Freeman, director of swine and animal nutrition for Legacy Feed. “This allows us to continue to expand our footprint into this region and actively look to grow our swine contract partners. This mill is unlike any in our area and will best serve contract swine producers who are looking for growth opportunities on their farm. We are excited to build a robust team that will best support and serve our customers.”
