NEW HAMPTON, IOWA, US — Five Star Cooperative has entered into an agreement in principle to acquire A&K Feed & Grain, an agricultural provider in Lime Springs, Iowa, US, expanding Five Star Cooperative’s business footprint in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota. Financial terms of the deal, which is expected to close this fall, were not disclosed.
A&K Feed & Grain offers products and services in fertilizer, crop protection, seed sales and grain buying. Five Star Cooperative said A&K’s well-established operations and experienced team will support its position as a leading regional agricultural provider.
“This acquisition allows us to strengthen our presence in a key area of our territory map, filling a crucial gap and enabling us to better serve our membership,” said Scott Black, chief executive officer of Five Star Cooperative. “We are excited to build upon the trusted relationships that A&K Feed & Grain has cultivated and to continue providing the Five Star quality services that north Iowa’s farming community expects.”
Five Star Cooperative, based in New Hampton, Iowa, is a farmer-owned agricultural cooperative spanning across 15 counties with 19 locations providing agronomy, feed, grain, energy and retail products and services to its members and customers.
Five Star Cooperative said the acquisition will enhance its agronomy and grain operations and provide new opportunities for growth and innovation. Five Star will be welcoming the A&K team currently serving its customers under the Five Star banner along with the existing agronomy facilities and grain assets in Lime Springs, which is about 25 miles north of New Hampton.
