The D mill is six stories tall, covers 35,000 square feet, and includes state-of-the-art milling equipment. It has daily production capacity of 8,000 cwts which brings the company’s overall daily milling capacity to 25,000 cwts.

Since 1891, five generations of the Doyle family have served as leaders of King Milling. Among the company’s executives today are, from left: Patrick Doyle, executive vice president; Brian Doyle, chairman; and Jim Doyle, president.

The expansion project received a Food and Agriculture Investment Program grant of $250,000 from the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). 

King Milling has more than 3.7 million bushels of wheat storage to feed its four milling units in Lowell.

Bühler installed its latest generation roller mills in the D mill, which is dedicated to the production of hard wheat flour.

The fourth floor of the mill features Bühler purifiers.

Flour is pneumatically transported in the D mill through stainless steel spouting.

In 2019, King Milling built an automated packing system to pack its products into 25- and 50-pound bags as well as 2,000-pound supersacks. This system is housed in a 30,000-square-foot warehouse constructed with the most sanitary design.

Most of King Milling’s flour is delivered in bulk to commercial customers in Michigan and surrounding states, but it does sell bagged flour in several stores in the Grand Rapids, Michigan, US, area.
