SINGAPORE — Olam Agri has joined two new global sustainable agriculture initiatives focused on decarbonizing supply chains and promoting the adoption of regenerative agriculture.
“Strong partnerships and collaborations are a must as we transform agriculture,” said Julie Green, chief sustainability officer, Olam Agri. “By supporting industry-wide solutions, we want to make sustainably grown crops a reality for farmers and consumers everywhere. These partnerships elevate our impact on the climate, nature and livelihoods.”
The new initiatives were announced at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28). The COP28 Action Agenda on Regenerative Landscapes will accelerate the transition to regenerative agriculture practices. It is led by the COP28 presidency, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Boston Consulting Group with support from the UN High Level Climate Champions.
The First Movers Coalition for Food includes more than 20 corporate and research partners who are part of the World Economic Forum’s First Movers Coalition for Food. It will create aggregated market demand for sustainably produced and low-emission agricultural commodities that could total $20 billion in value.
In addition to these initiatives, Olam Agri is continuing work on existing industry initiatives. The Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Agribusiness Task Force has launched a new blended finance framework to unlock financing for regenerative agriculture, and the Agriculture Sector Roadmap to 1.5°C has delivered Soy Sector Roadmap to halt deforestation in high priority biomes.
Olam Agri has committed to a science-based target initiative-validated target of net zero by 2050, and to advance regenerative agriculture in direct supply chains and farms.
