PORT MORESBY, PAPUA NEW GUINEA — Wilmar International signed an agreement with the government of Papua New Guinea to expand its agribusiness operations in the country, according to the Post-Courier newspaper.

Expansion possibilities include a new eco-friendly feed mill and a sustainable flour mill in Port Moresby as well as investments in palm oil, the rice industry and chicken production. The partnership’s goal is to reduce the environmental impact of agricultural activities.

Wilmar International officials said the country has agriculture potential because of its abundant rainfall. Papua New Guinea officials said they are ready to help Wilmar in whatever way they can, including state equity.

Wilmar International, based in Singapore, is an agribusiness group encompassing the entire value chain of the agricultural commodity business from origination to processing, branding, merchandising and distribution of a wide range of food and industrial products.
