PARIS, FRANCE — Shipping activity in the French Atlantic port of La Rochelle — one of the biggest grain export terminals in France — was disrupted on Aug. 10 after a fire broke out and spread to four grain silos operated by SICA Atlantique, according to Reuters.
Representatives of SICA Atlantique told Reuters that the fire started on a conveyor belt and spread to the grain silos but did not reach stored grain. No injuries have been reported.
According to the Reuters story, the cereal terminal at La Rochelle, known as La Pallice, is an important export outlet that handles larger panamax vessels.
The news comes just a few days after an explosion near grain silos located at the Port of Derince in western Turkey injured 12 people.
