DES MOINES, IOWA, US — Farmer-owned cooperative Landus has signed a letter of intent to purchase the Central Farm Service (CFS) grain facility in Bricelyn, Minnesota, US, taking ownership on Aug. 31. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The Bricelyn grain facility has 1.45 million bushels of storage capacity and 20,000 bushels/hour receiving capacity. Located just nine miles from the Landus Union Pacific shuttle-loader in Rake, Iowa, US, the facility will provide area farmers access to new export markets throughout the United States and Mexico.
“Bringing together the Bricelyn grain storage facility with the Rake rail hub makes strategic sense for the farmers that Landus and CFS serve,” said Matt Carstens, president and chief executive officer of Landus. “Our team looks forward to expanding our work with area farmers, and we’d like to thank the CFS team for their openness to working together and implementing value-added grain opportunities for the farmers we both serve.”
Des Moines, Iowa-based Landus is one of North America’s largest grain storage companies with precision agronomy and grain marketing services, as well as corn and soybean processing. According to Sosland Publishing Co.’s 2023 Grain & Milling Annual, Landus has 56 licensed grain storage facilities that can hold 152.686 million bushels.
Headquartered in Truman, Minnesota, US, CFS serves southern Minnesota and northern Iowa with products and services in grain marketing and merchandising, crop production and seed, feed manufacturing, bulk petroleum, and producer financing.
“This sale is an example of two cooperatives working together to strategically realign assets to provide better service to farmers, many of whom are members of both cooperatives,” said Merlyn Kruger, president and CEO of CFS.
