PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA — Despite droughts and floods in some parts of Cambodia, rice production in the 2021-22 main wet season crop is expected to increase, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Production is estimated at 9.61 million tonnes, up from 9.48 million tonnes in 2020-21.
Weaker exports to the EU and other major markets were offset by gains in China and Vietnam in the first eight months of 2020-21, the USDA said. Total exports for the year are now estimated at 1.6 million tonnes.
For the 2021-22 year, exports are estimated at 1.41 million tonnes due to a slight increase in official trade and lower cross-border trade, the USDA said.
