PARIS, FRANCE — France’s corn crop is expected to increase 4.3% from last year to 13.9 million tonnes as summer rains let to better yields, Reuters reported, citing the nation’s farm ministry.
The wet weather, however, hurt winter grain crops such as soft wheat and barley. The ministry cut its estimate for soft wheat to 35.2 million tonnes from a forecast of 36.1 million tonnes last month. The new total is still 21% higher than last year.
Barley production totals are now estimated at 11.4 million tonnes, down from 11.7 million tonnes projected last month.
Rapeseed production was left unchanged at 3.3 million tonnes, virtually stable on last year’s totals.
