WASHINGTON, DC, US — In the first survey-based estimate of the 2020 crop, the US Department of Agriculture in its May Crop Production report forecast winter wheat production in the United States at 1.255 billion bushels, down 49.403 million bushels, or 4%, from 1.304 billion bushels in 2019 and compared with 1.184 billion bushels in 2018.
Hard red winter wheat production in 2020 was forecast at 733.409 million bushels, down 12% from 833.181 million bushels in 2019.
The USDA forecast soft red winter wheat production at 297.527 million bushels, up 24% from 239.166 million bushels in 1019.
Hard white winter wheat production was forecast at 16.2 million bushels, down 19% from 19.954 million bushels in 2019. Soft white winter wheat production was forecast at 207.464 million bushels, down 2% from 211.702 million bushels in 2019.
