TEHRAN, IRAN — Iran is forecasting the production of 14 million tonnes of wheat for 2021, Reuters reported, citing a President Hassan Rouhani announcement during a televised cabinet meeting.
The president also confirmed Iran’s food supply is “secure” as the agriculture sector has not been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Rouhani credited the strong wheat production to heavy rainfall.
According to Reuters, Iran has been impacted the most by COVID-19 in the Middle East with a death toll of 4,683 and 74,877 confirmed cases.
The country also expects to produce 2.6 million tonnes of rice and 1.7 million tonnes of sugar, the news agency said.
