QUINCY, MASSACHUSETTS, U.S. — Bay State Milling has relocated its specialty grain milling facility to a new site in Woodland, California, U.S., that has more space than the former facility in Woodland. The move will allow the company to grow its Partner Sourced Ingredients program, which develops partnerships with growers and processors.
Storage, which includes dedicated areas for gluten-free and organic plant-based ingredients, increased significantly. The larger facility also supports the processing of SowNaked high protein oats into flakes and flour due to the expanded space for milling and blending of specialty and ancient grains. Cinnamon milling operations have shifted from a facility in Bolingbrook, Illinois, U.S., to provide updated processes and improved logistics.
A new clean room is home to Bay State’s SimplySafe heat treatment, which delivers a validated 5-log reduction on relevant pathogens with end-to-end environmental control and monitoring. The program initially was applied to SowNaked oats and rice flour and will be integrated fully across the company’s portfolio of specialty flours by the end of the year.
“Offering added capabilities in a new plant with enhanced personal and food safety investments that will support and scale new product introductions is critical to serving our West coast customer partners and emerging new businesses,” said David Sachs, vice-president and general manager of mini-milling and blending. “In combination with our recently completed Bolingbrook, Illinois, expansion, we continue to build upon a national network for specialty milling and blending to serve the growing consumer demand for unique and innovative plant-based ingredients.”
